How Can Coaching Help Me?
Working with breast cancer patients for the last several years I have found many have a difficult time re-joining the life they had before the cancer. Most women find the year after treatment is finished as difficult as or even more confusing than while they were in active treatment. While seeing doctors every day, week or two, going through surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, at least you are fighting the cancer. When your doctor looks into your eyes and tells you that you don't need to come in for 3 months, it sounds good at first. This is what you have been waiting for, right? Then why is this so scary? Why are you so confused? Why can't you simply step back into your old life?
Completing treatment can be both stressful and exciting. You will be relieved to finish treatment, yet it is hard not to worry about cancer coming back. You may have been going through so much during treatment that you could only focus on getting through your treatment. It's very normal and the more you are in touch with your emotions the harder it might be for you. You may find yourself overwhelmed by emotions. Some find themselves stuck, knowing they can't go back to their old life but not knowing what their new life looks like. Many survivors understand the meaning of their mortality and want to make a difference in the time they have left. Most will live a long life and want to make sure they leave a legacy when it is time.
You may also begin to re-evaluate your relationship with your spouse or partner. Unexpected issues may also cause concern. You will need people you can turn to for strength and comfort. Support can come in many forms: family, friends, cancer support groups, church or spiritual groups, online support communities, individual counselors or a life coach.
Almost everyone who has been through cancer can benefit from getting some type of support. What's best for you depends on your situation and personality. Life coaching is a safe environment where you can share your feeling and with the help of your coach you will find your new normal. As your coach I will keep you accountable, with your dreams in your sights.
